In a word, "Coooooooool!" So was there more than one ark in the show?

No. But the show was awful. I actually watched some of it on DVD about a year ago. I thought "this is crap - but there's a very grand and epic idea lost in there somewhere".

I think Doug Trumbull (my hero, BTW) was going to do the effects, but they jerked him around so he left. There's still a lot of compositing in the show. But all the shots of the Ark look like someone walked around the miniature with a hand-held camera.

It's diabolical :eyepopping:

Yeah, I was psyched when it finally made it to DVD, but we couldn't get through the whole thing. We got about 5-6 eps in and said, "OK. That's enough. We remember now." It only took one or two real stinkbomb episodes :D

BTW, seems like Doug is still in my area. He was organizing a casting call for something recently.

The show is so profoundly non-dramatic. Considering the drama inherent in the premise, one really wonders what everyone was thinking.

An interesting movie (well, by today's standards ) that touched on a similar theme was last year's "Pandorum". While it's not great, it is in a way more what I would expect the situation to devolve into on such a ship, in the event there is a catastrophe during the flight.

It's worth a look, if you haven't seen it.

"Profoundly non-dramtic". LOL!!!!

I'll look into Pandorum. BTW, I got Pushing Ice the other day, but haven't had time to dig in yet.

"Pandorum" has a lot of horror aspects to it. I'm not sure I completely understood what the situation was on that spaceship. But if you watch it, check out the "deleted scenes" - there is some interesting "mythology of the voyage" stuff as I recall.

"The Starlost" was just really horrid! The premise is the only thing good about it - and it seems like those making the show all but rejected the idea, rather than embracing it. It flaunts a cavalier disregard for even the fundamental building blocks of drama - the characters just stand in the corner and practically don't move
