But in certain sites about the tribe I read that they counted as loincloths.

It just seems strange to call them skirts when they only cover the front half of the pubic region.

What does that mean about the skirts/loincloths?

It's just a choice in words.
I have also heard it described as an Apron or a belt. I remember reading the exact term in there language they called it but I don't remember what it was, sorry.

Well here's the thing:

If I were to portray a Yanomami tribe in one of my stories, but censored their nudity by giving them bikinis (yes, there's a male variety), would it be wrong for me to be so inaccurate?

Well it depends. While I oppose censorship for censorship's sake, many native tribes, including the Yanomami do wear some western style clothes, Usualy shorts, t-shirts, speeos, jeans, and tank tops donated by missionaries, they wear them because it's a fancy new gift, at least untill they rot away from the constant mud and humidity.

It's kind of funny in my opinion trying to impose western standards of modesty on these tribes and then watching the clothing fall apart from the elements, because they can't make or repair them themselves.

But yes, if it takes place in modern times it's highly feasible. Another thing worth pointing out, that even tribes that have never been contacted by white people sometimes use metal tools, traded from other tribes who have been contacted.

Well my story is meant to be set in the 2130s, when thankfully there are still a healthy amount of Yanomami left.

Then they could be wearing fucking anything and carrying cell phones for all that matters.
