Light painting is achieved with a mixture of a rather long exposure photo (As in, the lens is left open for much longer than "normal" picture taking) and skill with some sort of light source. The light source creates a much faster impression because of how bright it is and, if one moves deftly enough, can appear to be disembodied. This gives an appearance of mystical light trails and awesome pictures.
