Actually, I was being sarcastic. But, in all seriousness I think this post is a bit over the top. I mean I have the same problem to. After a while of seeing nothing but "thanks for the fav" it just gets old. I would not go so far as calling it spamming though, mostly it is just people who appreciate the fact that at least someone notices their work. Calling someone a spammer is synonymous with calling someone a troll.

I do not intend to call anyone a spammer, unless they indeed do it excessively.

Like I said: while the motivation behind the act might be innocent, the act itself repeated relentlessly by numerous people does end up being spamming. It clutters your comment section with stuff of little or no real significance, and you're notified about it each time it happens. It's annoying. And I, personally, don't want to see it.

One person leaving a small sticky card saying "Thank you" on your monitor is a nice surprise. Multiple people doing it every single day is a nuisance. And even after the problem is over, seeing any more cards like that on your monitor makes your eye twitch.

See what I'm saying here?

Yea, I see what you are saying. I don't mean to get personal, but have you ever posted a "thanks for the fav" whenever you first joined DA. I admit, I used to but I don't anymore. Usually it is just people trying to make a name for themselves. It is not easy making a name for yourself as you may know.

I don't think I ever did. I think that when I first saw people doing it, I decided not to do it myself because of not wanting to be a "special snowflake" among other people doing exactly the same thing. Or maybe I did, I can't remember. It was 4 years ago.

What I do remember is that I never actively used DA due to considering it to be a pretty pointless endeavour, with nobody noticing what I do. It rather quickly changed when I made my first pony-related image and learned about the existence of DA groups when one of them requested it to be added. And from there, everything escalated over time.

Now I have almost 4000 watchers (I'm getting an impression that this amount is undeserved), I'm quite good at pony vectors (I didn't know how to make vectors at all when I started) and I visit DA every day. Who would have thought?

Oh, you got popular whenever the fandom was becoming popular. Yea, nowadays I see lots of people jumping on the pony band wagon. The sad thing for them is, unless you started out early, I would say around 2010, 2011ish, there is no way to be popular anymore. The superstars of the fandom, especially the ones who came up with the 3D renditions, are well established and I don't see any more popping up. I myself just do it as a way to learn Inkscape because lets face it, ponies are not that hard to vector.
