If you know who the user is, why do they need to type in their username?

The idea I had in mind that was when a user clicked an account to login as, this would appear, with the username already filled in. That way to user can see the username, to check it is the right account, but also they can change it quickly, if for some reason they wanted a different account.

Interesting, although the idea of the picture and the real_name is for that kind of identification. Many of the screenshots you link to have back buttons too for correction.

I'm actually building a gdm-greeter, so your timing is superb. I'll try and use some of the designs.
