I just got an email sayin I'm a semi-finalist...it's from @deviantart.com email address...donno if this is real or a scam... if this is a scam I'm gonna be depressed for a week!!!

I would ask you which design in particular from Homeworld I copied...but reading your comment I think it was a mistake to post this information about the e-mail in the first place. Do not make the mistake of thinking that right now I'm in a state of extreme happiness or that I'm posting here just to gloat or w/e.I never expected to qualify and I'm still very much enclined to believe that the e-mail is fake. I was actually hoping that someone else received a similar email and that they would be able to confirm or not the things I mentioned.
to Nym182 it's possible (and easy) to send a mail with a fake address but you should be able to track it back with it's ip and if it's an half done work it could be seen also in the header put no thrust in an uncertified Email
Eh, I'm not gonna worry about it anymore, I only joined the contest for the fun, fake or not, my work is done. I'm just sry if I agitated ppl for nothing... it was sort of a surprise for me so yeah. I'm pretty sure anyone would have reacted similarly. Till all the results are posted good luck to all of you.
dude you have all off my sympathy i would hope it was an info leak from the stuff because your design is awesome i never played homeworld so i don't know if it was inspired and in what measure by it

Actually, the tools used tend to influence the design of the product, and within certain parameters there are only so many variations to work with. So it is not entirely unlikely that a ship you made could look like other that others have made.
In fact, many of the ships looked like a retrospective of the Concept Ships blog. Some of them are because there are commonalities in what people find appealing in such designs, others are clearly fan art, but most are harder to tell. I've found a Ferengi ship in the collection, but can't say for certain if that was the inspiration of that artist, or it was just a coincidence of a forward swept wing shape (which is why there were many that looked like Klingon birds of prey too).
On the other hand, some of the Minmatar ships already in the game look so obviously Star Wars inspired it isn't even funny. So who's to say.

Ermmm, the only real similarity I see between that and Nym's two main designs is that they are all longer than they are wide or tall.

Well I checked the email addresses and the usernames in the email and they appear in the core staff list on deviant art... so I donno... I used to work as a tech support agent for AOL mail and I used to deal with a lot of fake eamils so this one kinda threw me off... donno what to think of it. I mean I'm thinking that you can only have a smthimsmthin@deviantart.com email address if you are actually part of the staff right?
i don`t know if it`s real or not, we don`t know until we don`t see the final list of the 15 semi-finalists. I wouldn`t get my hopes up until that.

Actually you can get emails from a php script that has nothing to do with a real mail address ... but we should not be paranoid after all. Also, there should be a list with people that are in semifinal so all to be transparent ... I really like your entry, so possible the email to not be fake ...
Well it does say that the list will only be public after the selected 15 are validated. and in this email they ask for something that has my name and birth date on it to confirm that I'm at least 13.
