That much for one page?
$50 is cheap, most artists start at $175 and go up. I know, I've been trying to get a graphic novel of my story Tanya's Moon created for oh, since I wrote it in 2005. That means a standard twenty-four page 'comic' would cost around $4,200 minimum just for the art, how good are you at lettering? That costs a bunch too.
The current maximum price for one commission is 40$, and that includes three characters and a background.
A comic involves a lot more characters (even though they are smaller) in various poses and backgrounds. A lot of work!
