XD I didn't know what that was when I was first starting out either. The only monochrome things I did were sketches that I occasionally filled in with dark pencil or pen and in more rare occasions, with the same color in Sai or something. Once you understand shading and stuff, you can do some cool things with one color (plus white and/or black).^^

Well, there is that bow I shaded. Perhaps I should try different objects?

But... what? 
Try to draw and shade things around your house, like books or maybe curtains with a good light source which could help improve your shading, especially when you're bored, or was it something more specific you were speaking of...:3
