When I make a pendant I try hard to get the stone to come out, if it does, I have to revise my design. You never know how someone else will treat it. I don't throw it at the ground, just wiggle and pull on the stone as much and as hard as I can. On almost all of my pendants, the stone will not come out unless you bend the metal. I messed up on one of my newer ones, I forgot to put a prong on one of the sides, so it can come out on that side but only if you pull real hard.
I do that with mine, as well. If a little wiggling or jostling makes the stone come out, I alter the wiring until it won't come out until I purposefully -make- it.
