I wish I could explain shortly all there is to know about acrylics, but there is no short way to do it. And eventually, it is not about acrylics or oils. All principles of color are the same, whether it is acrylics, oils, watercolor, ink or even photography.
Focus on how light works in black and white first, then how warm and cool colors affect light in real life.
Maybe some day I will sit down and spend some time on writing a book about it. But there are some good books already out there on the matter.
Everything James Gurney has written, or traditional painters like Richard Schmid are priceless sources of information.

Ok thank you for the info and I have checked out the guys you suggested and it was quite useful.
I am sort of up to speed with how light works but the thing that gets me with acrylics is how to blend them together and also how to make different textures like the ones you have in your paintings. Is it simply a matter of different brush strokes or is there more to it?

Texture is always a matter of brush strokes. As far as blending colors together, you can do it either by blending the paint while still wet (which requires that you get as close as possible to the color you want, because there is no second chance) or to wait for the paint to dry and use glazing. Also, if you have a good knowledge of light, color temperature and saturation, you can block in your painting with large and medium brushes first, juxtaposing all the brushstrokes, then add a bit of texture and details on top.

ok thanks for the info it was good. I have looked on YouTube for glazing tutorials and ones on brush strokes and will continue to do so but are there any books that you recommend to me in the meantime?

Thank you so much. I bought the Color and Light one by James Gurney and it will be here tomorrow. I tried the glazing technique today with some acrylic medium and it worked pretty well and am experimenting with different brushes.

Thank you for all your advice and it has been a pleasure talking with you.

Best of luck for the future.
