An adorable merle collie :)

Any tips on owning one since I'm about to buy one in 2 months?

Thank you~!

Socializing! Socialize that pup to bits! Lark was taken with me to work (at a dog daycare) when h e was nine weeks old and, though he was too little to go down with the daycare dogs, he was handed to pretty much everyone who came in. No one can resist fluffy collie puppies. XD

Also, start brushing that puppy soon. Lark gets brushed while he eats- brush brush chew chew and then stop when he is finished eating. That way he (hopefully) associates brushing with tasty good things.

Puppy classes are wonderful, too. The sooner you can get your puppy into a puppy class the better. <3

thank you I've been preparing for a collie by taking care of several neighbors' dogs for money (lol they sure aren't cheap) and by doing research, but nothing beats the direct facts form an actual owner.

You're welcome~ Feel free to ask away!

Number one thing I love about collies? Or at least one of the number one reasons? They are brilliantly smart, even as puppies. Use that brain and get your puppy working for everything- sit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner etc. Tricks are easy to teach- Lark learned how to shake with both front paws in a matter of minutes, much to my surprise.

Yes, Collies are very clever, especially the Rough Collies. Mine is cross between a Rough Collie and German Shepherd. He learnt how to lie down in a matter of seconds (no joke!) and I taught him to beg in about 2 days, probably sooner I just think he couldn't be bothered getting up, but now he's lazy and when he begs he leans on anything he can get his paws on XD

Lark understands how to lie down, but will not do it with just my voice yet. Haha. With a treat, though, yes okay! He will also roll over~
His easiest trick (besides sitting) to learn was to shake paws. Shake for his right paw, 'left' for his left paw, he can do it for ages. Haha. Learned it in about five minutes o___O I was so shocked XD

Need to learn more tricks!

Haha! Marley only does it when he feels like it, other times he will be an angel and do it for anybody without a treat. But he will ALWAYS do it for a treat lol XD

I know me too when Marley did it, I was so surprised because normally he wouldn't do it and then he did it and now everytime i say lie down he will just do it :) Very proud of him.

Yeah, Marley learnt first how to sit and shake paw, at round about the same time. He can do both but he doesn't like lifting his left paw up, only his right haha. I've got to say I think the best breed you could have is a Rough Collie, I did love my other dogs but I mean Marley picks up fast and he can learn things very quick, there is lots of good things although \i must say there is one fault....barking! Marley NEVER shuts up and in all the dog books I have it says quietness: 1/5 - That's true alright! lol

I know what you mean about the barking- Lark is normally pretty darn quiet unless he wants someone to play with him. He'll bark his fool head off at dogs in an attempt to get them to play with him, and will hush up the moment that they do. Haha.
