I don't think I've said it, but I praise the creativity for picking unusual animals for a ride. I'm too tired of birds and dragons, but couldn't really see a way out~

Lol, if I remember correctly the rationale behind using rays was that when their riders inevitably made the suicidal decision to start barrel rolling like it's going out of style, the ray could curl its 'wings' around the gryphane in question to prevent an extremely jilted Physics from hurling them into the void. Well that and the concept of a rayburrito's worth implementing the creatures all on its own.
