well, my extended family is rather big XD.... so it would save some chickens....

now that you mention it, I'm curious how did ostriches survive till now...
(now they're doing fairly well... like chickens...)

haha, yeah. i can imagine the campaign: "SAVE A TURKEY: EAT A MOA"

The main difference between the ostrich and the Moa is that the ostrich used to inhabit most of africa and a big chunk of asia and the middle east. They are locally extinct there now. But that GINORMOUS range was key to thier survival. The moa only lived in forests on New Zeland, a much smaller range to share with humans.

they should have raised them like chickens... then they would have survived somehow....

thats a thougt......

but, there are also dangers to growing one breed like that and having them concentrated on ranches. all it would take in one outbreak of a a desises endemic to that breed and you can loose entier flocks...or herds?

well, geneticly modify them to be resistant?

ooooo, and then make a chicken with 100 legs :D

Ah, GM foods. so far i think there has been no direct alteration of livestock other than slective breeding. I hear that scientist are working on pigs crossed with a typ of worm to produce bacon that is high in Omega-3 fatty acids to make it healthier :D

But genetic manipulation can open a whole pandora's box of problem, such as the accidental creation of a new virus or a 500 foot tall mega chicken that will go strait for Tokoyo as monters are wont to do..
seriously tho, i think with better research and cloning techniques, GM products will end up saving us some day.

I think GM has lot of potential.
And the only way of learning how to make better is to try.
How can they try if people just bann it because it is "unhealthy", "unnatural", "blah, blah"?....

(Ok, except if they create a really bad virus that kills everyone... at that point we're screwed :P...)
