The problem is, Japan's is a very humid heat, while Mexico and the areas around have dryer heat waves.

Well, depends on where you live in Mexico. The southwestern and northwestern areas of the northernmost state in Mexico (officially named Sonora) have a very humid weather (especially the city of Guaymas, which is where I stayed). I think you're referring to the Northeastern part of Sonora, which is made up of a mountain range.
