Unfortunately, I'm not really in the mood to find the paragraph in the comp rules explaining this, however, no, the ability targets those creatures, and does not require it to have a new target if one of them becomes an illegal target, similarly, if you cast a spell with which the only target for it becomes an illegal target for the spell, the spell will fizzle
