Well they did that with their whole navy. The Aircraft carriers operated seperately from the Battleships because they were faster, but this left them badly unprotected(as seen at midway when lack of AA screens was catastrophic) US Navy used our Battleships both for Shore bombardment and as mobile AA platforms to screen the Carriers.
The Japanese IJN had such rivalry between the sections of the Navy they competed and often spurned coordinating together. The submarines of the IJN were the best of the war and had the best torpedoes, but they mainly used them for supply rather than like the Germans and US used theirs and as a result their effectiveness was drastically reduced.
The IJN also ironically enough still believed the Battleship alone was the decisive battle decider(even though they had shown how Carriers were superior in terms of range and ability to sink other ships easier) As a result they often sent the heavy battlegroups that contained vessels like Yamato and Musashi out with heavy cruisers and other battleships but little to no air cover.
Finally they also saw the Yamato and Musashi as too valuable to risk, so again ironically they were often kept from the very battles they had been designed to fight due to the fear of the IJN of losing the two superships and not being able to replace them.
It is frustrating in the extreme as a student of War to see such a magnificent vessel misused so badly.

Great lecture :) and I couldn't say it better myself. Among many other things, I'm loooong seasoned shiplover, modeler (many years ago) and amateur historian.

Well we don't have splendid battleships anymore  but IMHO there is still place for them in todays world.

Thank you. I find history fascinating but also frustrating when you have to passively watch mistakes being made

Yeah, but on the other hand I prefer calmness of my house than chaos of (e.g.) Pacific War or Eastern Front.

BTW: Xizer, same Xizer from Thrawn's Revenge project?

Well said.

Also yes, I am the same Xizer from Thrawn's Revenge. Did a lot of the voice work, some art and a few odds and ends.

So wholeheartedly I can say - I love Thrawn's Revenge... even if my primary focus is Phoenix Rising, still it's absolutely great. One of very few mods which never CTD and never do other funky stuff. Can't wait to try new release.

And I can't thank you guys enough for DeFreezer. It doesn't solve all problems of humongous project the PR is, but it certainly eased the pain.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I enjoyed working on it and seeing it take off like it has. We have 2.2 coming out soon and the mod Thrawn's Revenge II Ascendancy for Sins of a Solar Empire is almost ready for the release of the Beta testing.

You're most welcome, the reeze bug and the Fleet commander bug were the main evils we had to fix lol(Years of frustration on both of those lol) Again glad you enjoy it and it's always awesome to meet a TR player!

Yeah, only 2 small issues to fix. LOL You would think that LucasArts wouldn't release another stinker. It's a bit of Microsoft/Bill Gates 640kB.. moment. They couldn't grasp the fact that game will be massive hit with the fans and modding community will go into [mad] overdrive. Perfect example of botched corporate thinking. What I would give for patch on the engine. We were thinking about petition but they would probably ignore the matter...

Sadly with PR it is not so easy, as 1.2 span massive, gigantic fleets on both sides. People supporting the mod came with few ideas to circumvent and mitigate issue (DeFreezer is a huge help), but to be honest everybody waits for version 1.3 which is coming... uhm well I should live long enough for that to happen :D And 1.3 should curb if not all then certainly most problems. Project lead had some problems, EvilBob moved across Atlantic, so there were many disruptions along the way. For now pretty much bored of 1.2 and endless tinkering with xml because it always run into ground no matter how you want to cheat fate.

Oh and it is only fair for you to know that I'm lurking on TR forums under name Thrawnizator. Not many post because TR is probably most stable mod for FoC ever created and my main "occupation" for PR is reporting bugs and trying to cheat retarded&archaic game-engine with xml. And I defo not belong to the eat, breathe, sleep SW fan base so quite [?very?] often I haven't got a clue what guys are debating. I will always put DS9, B5 and SG Atlantis before SW.

Cheerio!
