Neat! Very nicely done! He looks wonderful, especially for a 'test run' as it is. I know I started making maquettes to help with difficult positions for drawing my characters and they help a ton, even if this was for fun alone. As for the transparent fins, something I did when I was younger was take tissue paper and brush it over wire with glue, Let that dry and would add more glue for strength. Something i have used for a high gloss that might work (ir not for fear of sticking fingers) is super glue, once it dries it gives a nice shine. Another transparent fin trick I did if you don't mind it being a bit opaque is again using at least a little wire structure on parchment paper I'd then fill it with hot glue, with a pair of sharp sewing scissors you can shape it a little and it has some give to it and flexibility.
Just some options for the possible future for you.

Love the sculpture though, you did amazing and I love the paint job as well! Bravo!

Hey, thank you! Yeah, I just started making this on a whim without references so it's nothing I'd use for a drawing aid, except maybe for that difficult 3/4-from-the-rear thing with animal faces. Maquettes are awesome, though, go you!

Aaaah, very good ideas! I actually never thought about hot glue although we have a crap ton of it at home! Have you ever tried sanding a hot glue piece? I wonder if that'd work better than scissors for cleaning up the edges.

You're welcome! And that is how many of my maquettes were, just wanted them scampering around my room for the fun of it more then anything else. Just worked later to get them for drawing aid like you said in those hard angles, they are evil!

I'm glad the idea's were helpful! I actually have not worked with sanding it before, however I am working on a project at the moment that requires hot glue, now I am going to try! I'll probably post up some pictures just to show what it could end up like. I imagine it would work well like scissors, might add some texturing but I'll find out! :D
