Thank you! The shoulders do indeed have missile launchers inside them, although the gray panels are actually right below the missile bays. You can see more details here: grebo-guru.deviantart.com/art/…

As for why missiles are not more common in Gundam, it's because of Minovsky interference. Radar, radio guidance, and even thermal imaging are confounded by Minovsky particles, so missiles are not the most reliable weaponry in the Universal Century. Of course, that doesn't completely answer the question, but it at least goes part of the way there...

Those blasted Minovsky particles. :D

It is interesting that some of the later GM variants do use missile launchers.

Like the RGM-86 GM III.

It is nice that they did eventually add missile weapon systems.

As much as I do love Gundam UC (it is my favorite of the Gundam universes, as Unicorn is friggin awesome), I find your work to be equal to and better than many of the original designs.
Your Mekton work as well (I have many of the old Mekton books).

Well, if you like missiles, the Fullarmor ZZ and the Zssa are gonna be right up your alley.
As for your complimenting my work, I deeply appreciate it. You are too kind. I'm flattered!

Thank you.
I've seen all of Gundam UC, even played most of the external universe UC video games (my favorite being the Sega Dreamcast game Gundam Side Story 0079) so I am familiar with those two mecha.

I've been into anime (and Science Fiction in general) since I first saw "Battle of the Planets" and "Starblazers" on UHF television stations as a kid in the early 1980s.
I used to belong to Books Nippon out of California and spent many a paycheck on all kinds of books and models.
The anime style is what influenced my art, but it is American SF that influenced my stories.

You deserve the recognition, you have a well balanced and original style.

Well, as one OG to another (I used to shop at the Books Nippon in NYC back in the 80s) I tip my hat to you sir. And thanks again!
