Considering that WinXP is soon to be discontinued, as far as official support goes, it may just be an issue of our machines not being able to keep up with the advancements (including the advancements in virus technology).
I agree, it really made my old machine work extra hard....I used to refer to it as the "big o' jet aero-liner" due to sound it made when I powered it up!
