I always seem to be online when you have replied to my comments...weird.

I watch the Youtube channel of a guy that hikes through the mountains in Shizuoka. While he does find bamboo occasonally it is mostly regular forest.

I was hiking in the mountains once as well and came across some bamboo. I felt like I stumbled upon a gold mine, even though it was a pretty dark and gloomy bamboo grove full of huge spider webs. :D

Ha, the spiders seem to be very common, this guy is constantly running into their webs, or trying to avoid them. Dark and gloomy is okay though, maybe I am weird but as much as I like light, traditionally beautiful places, I also enjoy dark gloomy, scary places, or industrial places. Creepy is really good sometimes.

This is true. All moods are welcome at one time or another. :D Do you think you could send me a link to this video series? It sounds interesting. By the way, one scary place I want to visit near Tokyo is Aokigahara forest. It lies on the southwest foothills of Mount Fuji, and it's well known for suicides. In addition compasses don't work well due to iron deposits in the hills. So it has a very spooky reputation in addition to it's natural beauty. :D

This has a link to his different youtube channels. Softypapa has a lot of his wanderings as does Abandoned Japan.

I am familiar with Aokigahara. I first learned of it from a documentary by Vice, but have read a lot about it since then. At least pretty much everything I could find on english language blogs and websites. Sometimes I can muddle my way through Japanese websites but my Japanese is really too limited to really research and read that much text (took some classes in university but I have forgotten a lot and knowledge of kanji is really limited right now. Just starting to get back into my studies). My morbid side does find the association with suicide to be fascinating but it also appears to be a very, very beautiful forest but ominous forest.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I've been meaning to go to the forest to photograph the beauty, but none of my Japanese friends want to go with me. They really buy into the whole bad reputation. :D

You need some new friends that are more into this kind of thing. Superstition can sadly get in the way of a beautiful day.
