Actually, the meanings of tincures, lines and ordinaries are nonsense. They first appeared (according to Woodstock Garter) in the 17th century (and 17th & 18th century heraldry is awful) and have no mediaeval foundations, even if often said. Furthermore, the usual order is Metals - Colours - Stains.
Also, the 'shields on coats of arms' are actually heraldic ordinaries. And the pile you show is a reversed pile.
