It's hand appliqued and embroidered. Most of it is applique. It's only the very thin lines that are embroidery.

I don't know what you mean by "thread you do yourself." I just use standard embroidery thread, like DMC brand. You can buy it at any craft store.

The main larger star is applique, but has silver embroidery thread around the edge.
