I live and studied in the Philippines. And ever since I joined the Hetalia fandom, I've discovered a lot of things that they dont teach in schools. It sucks coz some events and people deserves attention, and the people today should know them. I guess its not just a problem in the Philippines.
I know what you mean, I have always liked leaning about history even before I learned about Hetalia. After I leaned about Hetalia it just made it a lot better since I didn't know so much about other places, but in school the teachers just were endlessly repeating the same dates and the same people over and over again which just made it boring. On top of that there was never much information about the things we did learn, it was like "oh this happened" or "they did that" now let's move on. We just skimmed part of what happened and in doing so we have forgotten some important events and people. We haven't given many people the recognition that they should have gotten and even lessen the achievements that they did.
Exactly! I love history too, but I have poor memory, so at least APH helps me remember them better because I associate them with an anime character. hehe. And I agree. There isnt enough detail in what they teach in schools. You'd have to do some personal research on those things. And lets face it, if youre a kid, I doubt you'd bother to do that. At least, I never did. 
Also, in all the history classes Ive ever attended in my whole life, I've only had 1 really good history teacher! Thats why I like putting historical stuff in my APH stories. Maybe it can help people get interested, or at least curious about history too.

and I have had 2 really good history teachers my last one was so energetic that just watching him was fun and he made it so interesting. He showed how one thing led to the other and how that led to everything that we see today but he said it in a way that kept you listening. And don't worry about the memory I have horrible memory when it comes to people's name. Well good luck on your OC maybe I can help you out with Mexico since my parents are from there oh also I think I remember something about Mexico helping out the Philippines when they were both under Spain's rule I'm not sure I have to look it up 
but I do remember that they did influence each other a lot.
