Yeah, the original was awesome. I used it straight from launch to launch of the 3DS, mainly only switching because the one hinge one the left busted causing the top screen to distort the colors. I still have around though.
What happened to the hinge? If the colors are distorted, there may be damage to the ribbon cable inside. The small hinge on the left side broke, the front half of it coming completely off, letting the top screen go up further than it should, so that's probably what did the damage.
