It takes massive amounts of time, and I'm still just an amateour. It took me years to get to this level, and there is loads I have to learn before I even begin to scrape the bottom of prodom.
I had an amazing teacher, :iconkaranua: , who has died last year, a great loss for me and the 3D community here on DevArt. He showed me not just the basics, but the "philosophy" behind the thing.
I also chewed through a 20 hours long tutorial video to make the Serenity from Firefly. That also taught me many tricks I am using.
But, like I said, I am far, far away from being a pro. I'm an enthusiastic amateour.

Aww, I'm sorry your mentor has passed away... :( I went and gave him a llama and a fave on "Sister Ships" just now. I hope they continue to keep his gallery open to inspire others, he was a really great artist... Oh, and after seeing his WIP on the Enterprise nacelles, all I can say is WOW... I have even more respect for all of you who work in 3D art now, whether you're professional or so-called "amateur" or whatever else! Soooo many lines to keep track of on the screen... :faint:
