grell identifies herself as a woman, and you always go by how someone self-identifies, regardless of what others call them, where they are in their transition, or if they choose to transition at all. "transsexual:" is not the correct term to use, and grell would be bisexual, because being transgender has nothing to do with sexual orientation! it's just how you identify your own gender.
the concept of a "sex change" is outdated because a person's gender is not determined by their genitalia! some trans people don't even want to, or unable, to transition, due to various circumstances, and they're as much their gender as someone who's had sex reassignment surgery ("sex change") and hormone therapy!
also, how would you know if a person had undergone SRS anyway unless they told you or you had sex with them? why does it matter what's in their pants unless you plan on interacting with them in that manner? always respect a person's identity!

But there is one thing I would like to confirm...I've been very confused with the difference between transsexual and transgender. People have been telling that a transsexual is someone who basically acts like the opposite gender, while transgender is one who already did the surgery..I even got other LGBT people to confirm this, thus is why I used that term. Sorry if it offended u or something but I hope you can understand why I mistook that word.
And yeah, that is true, some people can't afford surgery. We should just respect what they want to be called, regardless if they can get a sex change.
But just personal opinion here, I think the reason why some people call Grell a he is because they're not used to transgender people. As a person who grew up in an anti-LGBT environment I can understand this. It wasn't until I had a lesbian-transgender friend that I changed my opinion. My friend, who was born with female genitals, didn't mind if I continue calling her a she because she knows I'm still not completely comfortable but in exchange, I'm now calling her James, the name she always wanted to be called as, and no one else but me calls her James. it's still a progress, but better than nothing right? Some people will need time to change and accept different sexuality and gender, and I'm slowly getting into the acceptance part. I'm sure one day I'll be able to call my friend a he.
I understand if you are upset that people insult the transgender, as I assume you're trans too? So I want to apologize if anything I said earlier hurts you, but really, I'm trying my best to understand since I'm Asexual; and being around people who always wants romance, they'll never understand me either. Some even insulted me for not having a kiss or a boyfriend/girlfriend for my age; I'm nearly an adult. Yet I don't blame them. Sometimes it's better to have them experience it themselves through LGBT friends/relatives or at least explain to them politely about your situation and if they are good people who are willing to change, they will listen. ^u^

"transsexual" is an outdated term for someone who has had sex reassignment surgery, otherwise known as a "sex change". someone who is "transgender" identifies as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth- for example, your friend is transgender because he identifies as male but was assigned female at birth.
