We learned how to take a derivative and how to integrate, but we only did really basic things. An equation like this one is a no-no. 
I see, so you don't know chain and product rule of derivation?
We covered those. I imagine there's a ton more than what I learned, though.
That's all you need to solve the first half of the problem on the blackboard. The integration how ever is a bit more difficult.
