yep! never understood why couldn't find depictions of Melkor turning the 1st elves into orcs, or even some of his tortures and prisons, as those aspects are very important in the story. also, have never found anything showing his downfall, when his feet were chopped off. I dunno if the fact I always watched extreme movies before read Silmarillion influences, but I couldn't avoid notice the *lot* of gore on Silmarillion. descriptions aren't always explicit (not the style of book also), but honestly, I guess word 'torture' for example is explicit enough! and yes, lets see... the most vile intentions born in his mind seeing Luthien dance were like, take such a beauty to be a slave cook in his kitchen? lol. and poor Sauron, already turned into a woman :D! It's pretty understandable to think he and Melkor could have had smtg intimate, but... please, not *that* 'fluffy'!
Yep, this is one of the illustrations i liked in the book (much better than the one with Fingolfin)! i like this one by Nasmith too, it's a funny way to interpret it - I loved Eru's expression and rarely see Melkor depicted in a human way vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/l…

Yeah, me neither, I was looking for many times and I saw just one tasty piece of art with theme of elves turned orcs, also tortures, pity I don't remember the name or artist now. If I find again, I'll send you link ;P and that too, it was one of scenes in book that affected me strongly, I was shocked also how terrible fate Valar brought to him, like cutting feet for him fall on face, was terrible to imagine.. also proves, Valar weren't so good, as they claimed to be btw :P  And right, "non - explicit" language was the style, but things were "suggested" clearly enough :P btw, also with LotR, like I remember the sentence about Nazgul "They crossed the river Anduin unclad" haha, always made me imagine instantly some perverted things, like bunch of men crossing water naked, very nice thing to imagine before sleep must say  Hhaha, that's true, certainly he wouldn't turn her in a kitchen maid :P and yeah, I just feel like ":puke:" with some images of Sauron in skirt/make up/utterly feminie, it's such a disrespect for the dark lord hahah.  Personally, I prefer to imagine, they were both very manly, though in different ways, like Melkor more "powerful" etc etc.. though Sauron as still god-like, demonic fire - god just can't be fluffy, lol :P and pretty understandable, they would have something ... in "true" way, would be interesting :devilish:
And that one is also very good, as you said, Melkor appear the man it's something I definitely like. Also the Nazgul images of Nasmith/Balrog got nice ;) though I have some kind of obsession with Nazgul haha, quite noticeable :P

yeah, maybe people are afraid to look "sadist" if they represent these things. hardly ever seen any illustration on those, often they put light or romantic scenes on books, too. I'd like to check it, please send it to me if you find! :) gruesome side is are also part of story, and I think deserves to be illustrated. I'm planning to draw smtg on how Melkor captured the first elves, among other scenes I never saw (I myself am currently obsessed with Melkor, lol). saw this yesterday. it's the Angmar king - maybe it interests you, if you haven't seen ;) artfiles.alphacoders.com/512/5…

that ending is confuse, book refers to "Valar host" all time, but we never know exactly the names - only mentioned is Eonwe, so I wonder many times which were the first to find Melkor and cut his feet... thought could have been men and elves as revenge - Eonwe doesn't seem the kind who would do/allow this, since he didn't allow killing of Feanor sons. throwing anyone on Void is ultimate cruelty, something I don't know if even Melkor would do, and this clearly was decided by Valar. I cannot imagine a punishment worse than being forever imprisoned on nothingness all by urself! this utter sadism for gods who claim to be 'pure'.

haha, I love how Tolkien is a master on throwing dubious passages - he didn't really need to put they were unclad, but all the time he is teasing us readers by leaving dubious clues - I mean, he said Melkor "seduced" Mairon away and see the repercussion it had! Mairon ended up in skirts, lol! I saw him with tits and dress these days. was like... :o (Eek) WTF?! poor dude, even Melkor should pity him. yeah, also imagine would be smtg definitely manly, much more 'raw' - maybe Brokeback Mountain Angband version, lol!

Yeah, can be. Or they see just a sunny side of life XD And I found one of those illustration, I was talking about:
'One word, Finrod...' by tuuliky
I found very realistic and uniqe.  And that's true, persoanlly I find those black cards of story 10000 x more interesting, + I'm also obsessed with Melkor/Sauron/nazgul :P And yeaah, I saw that one, it's one of the best depictions of him EVER, I love that image, he seem very cold, powerful and merciless, and his face/built got just as I imagine. And handsome :devilish:
haha, I have problems but since always I find him kinda most attractive man in whole world, ever hooded and faceless XD

And yes, that is what I think too, seem Eonwe was less cruel, but other ones, the more powerful, made his fate the most cruel, they could, showing utter sadism.. That's why I think they are hypocrite and that's something I find loathsome. Also, I tried to draw Melkor chained in void few times, cause is one of themes, that always burned my mind.

Hahah, yeah, he's teasing XD also the "seduced" part seem "innocent" for general opinion, but seem a dubious passage haha. And yeah, I laughed here "Brokeback Mountain Angband version" hahah, I imagined some medieval and even more manly version though :P and of course, NO skirts and other shit on Dark Lord XD but serio, makes me vomit when I see Sauron female version, I just cant think about different than "such a lack of respect O_O" :P

yes, that one is very good! thanks for finding and sharing it :)! I wanna do smtg in this approach to Melkor. those depictions are really hard to dig here... have been searching a lot on DA, but all art seems aimed on battle/ popular scenes and elvish lore. cool also that Sauron has dark hairs in it, It's often my view of him. curious enough, that image you sent had over 16000 views, but less than 90 faves. says a lot to me, haha.

and yeah, thought this witch king depiction really cool! rarely I see any stuff showing a face as you do. i don't blame you for having "problems" with him - mysterious dudes are always the best, haha! yeah, the Void is always challenging to imagine... been trying to figure it too, was very impressed by the end on Quenta Silmarillion. trying to do smtg to Melkor's downfall, but went crazy on details and it is taking forever, argh.

hahahaah, on movie one of them ins't sooo male, but in the book they are both very rude and manly ;)! but yep, must be smtg medieval-oriented - and no bullshit *at all*, LOL! getting *really scared* of certain depictions of Sauron I've been stumbling on here, haha.

I forgot to ask, did you ever see a french movie called Martyrs? your Melkor chained reminds me much of a character there.
