Comment on Dragons meeting by Kooskia

I kinda see what you mean about Lessa - I didn't really like her when I first read the book, years ago, and I still don't.

Don't get me wrong, though, I really like the Pern 'canon' and such, just not so much some of the characters and some of the canon technicalities.

Anyway, I really like how you drew all of the dragons. ^^ Very cute.

Oh well... i know about such kind of issue among the fans about the books wrote by the son and that many don't like to consider them as canon (while others did), i'm just at the first book and i've many to reads so i don't know when i could keep on ^^
In the end i liked the general idea of the  plot and the some other things, but i hope there will be more about dragons's thoughts and actions and behaviour and feeling... and less about Lessa being so annoying xD

The dragons don't get much focus in the first book; it wasn't until the next book that Anne McCaffrey started actually writing out what they were saying, instead of just describing the gist of it. F'nor's Canth is a bit more of a vocal character in Dragonquest, but Ruth in The White Dragon sets the bar pretty high after that...most books after that generally have a more scenes with dragon dialogue. In addition to that, Lessa and F'lar arguably diminish in importance slightly as the books continue...I mean, they're still authority figures, but they don't get as much time as other characters (and they also get a bit of a personality and relationship rewrite to replace the "Sixties Abusive Romantic Relationship").

From memory, the books with the most vocal dragon characters include:
*Dragonquest - Canth, as mentioned, although oddly other important dragons like Queen dragon Wirenth don't get a single line of dialogue!
*The White Dragon - Ruth, as mentioned.
*The Impression - Golanth...this is a short story included in the "Dragonlover's Guide To Pern" that depicts what Impression's like (the chaos at Ramoth's hatching and Impression was kind of a one-off...call it Early Installment Weirdness).
*Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern - Orlith, Moreta's queen...they're much nicer characters than Lessa and Ramoth.
*All The Weyrs Of Pern - Ruth again, largely because his rider's one of the main characters in this, and also Golanth.
*The Dolphins of Pern - Gadareth...he's not in the book that much, but his scenes are still memorable.
*The Skies of Pern - Lots of dragon characters; but mainly Golanth and Zaranth, who spend several parts of the book chatting with one another!
*Dragonsdawn - Caranth, in later chapters.
*Red Star Rising - Morath; the cute and hilarious green hatchling! Her first real scene always makes me laugh...she wakes her rider by leaning over her bed with lots of apologetic thoughts about being hungry, only to startle her awake and make their heads collide.

Several of Todd's books focus on dragon characters, but I don't think they're as memorable as these ones (certainly, Talenth seems a bit dim...probably cause she's quite young...) and the events of Dragonsblood will just make you sad.

Uh ehe ok... however you got my interest for Age of Fire. Sadly i found that i managed to get my hands only on the first two books! : ( The others i dowloaded were just other books of same authro. Well.. but there is time.
It's one of your favourite?

I think it certainly ranks up there with my favourite dragon stories (which includes Pern and Temeraire...it's all about the sentient POV)...although it's been a while since I read them; I should start again once my course ends.

Only the first two? Noo, you have to read the third book! It's got an underground dragon city with a ruling family straight out of "I, Claudius" (in fact, most of the book characters end up doing the exact same things as their historic tv counterparts!)...I can't say too much without spoiling it, but the concept behind that book is just great!

The books written by the son read more like bad fanfiction - there are lots of errors, not many plots (save the same one re-used over and over), and his characters are, well, mary-sues. I read them, since I wanted to read the entire series, but I cannot recommend them.
I always wanted to see more of the dragons - you do see more of them later, I seem to recall.
Lessa is really annoying. XD I really thought I was the only one who didn't like her all that much. She gets less annoying later, but that's not soon enough.

I tend to roleplay Pern more than I do read it, nowadays. More fun that way. XD

Oh really? I read that basically he altered some rules, but that maybe was intentional.. with fandom split among who considered it fine and who didn't.  This is just basically what i found online.
Oh welll.. if you want to read more about books with dragon point of view...
Eragon series has something, but i thing that the main character Saphira show few of her feelings in the last book...
Temeraire series has surely much more.... but only  from the fifth book forward, there is direct dragon P.O.V. altered with the human one... i think she should have done it from the beginning..
I suggest you these two series, if you don't know them...
Oh... i know also another one (Dragon delaSangre) but never read it, just i know that's actually a sort of dark/gore/horror... with dragons point of view all the time, but some "nasty" things as dragons eating human (showing satisfaction) with full drescriptions and quiet gore scenes...

He has some mistakes editorial teams should have picked up on, too (like green dragons, which are female, suddenly being referred to as male).

I've read both of those series, actually. Finished Inheritance, the ending was a bit....so-so for me. Temeraire is very interesting, but I found myself loosing interest part of the way through. I should pick it up again, really.

I'll look into Dragon delaSangre, but carefully, methinks.

Oh hehe ok xD
Well.. about Inheritance i liked the ending (wans't for the finaly pairing AryaXEragon) but disliked how Fìrnen basically said nothing and Saphira just raped him xD kooskia.deviantart.com/art/The…
But it's fun to make parodies at least...
Well all series has weak and strong points, i like now Temeraire for the growing story of (dragons) characters, humans are a bit flat characters actually xD  And the sixth book it's basically pointless ...
But the seventh it's nice..

More then DelaSangre i would suggest you now "Age of Fire" of E.E.Knight, suggested by a cool guy in this discussion x3
Just discovered and started to read and it's very nice... a "standard" fantasy world (elves, dwarves etc..) but the whole plot follow the point of view of a dragon and is seen by perspective of a dragon...
(the first scene of killing an human was both gore... both hilarious.. should make a fancomic).
Different from Delasangre ... that one seems closer to urban fantasy (modern setting, shapeshifting dragons) , this Age of Fire it's more pure fantasy (medieval world, dragons in their full form)

I didn't much like that part, either. I found it really odd, too, how much older Saphira was than Firnen. And, since dragons can live for so long, I would have thought they would have grown up slower, too. But, oh well.
Hah, yeah, that comic sums it up. XD

I've read all of the Age of Fire, too. It's good, I like the fresh viewpoint of things. We always see dragons in stories, now we get to see a story as a dragon. Pretty fun.

Hehe... well.. in some way i liked it, i mean. I hoped that would happened because the poor Saphira craved for a male for 4 entire books! xD Just he could have draw it a bit better, giving more space for tell the readers what the two dragons share with their riders...

Oh awasome! Yeah,, i'm really liking it...
You know some other similar stories with them as protagonists ? x3 ( i love such kind of books)
