yeah both styles have merit. i would say it's a toss-up as to which style would have appeased your audience more. i myself like them both. 
Well I felt that to do the stories I wanted to do with Lucy, I needed a more realistic comic style. But if you remember the Nick Tauntie strip, I felt my old style of cartoons was perfect for that. But having lost that style, I can never finish NT, which is frustrating.
i keep wondering with myself if i shouldn't change my own style to a more cartoon one. but every time i try i'm disappointed with it.
