I've got my fingers crossed, but only on one hand.

Whoops - I meant to write "LOKI'D". But my point still stands. I'm sure he'll be fine, but these movies aren't exactly ground-breaking Disney masterpieces.

Ground-breaking Disney masterpieces are far and few between these days anyway in  my opinion.  'These days'...Wow I feel old.

Fair enough. And as far as "Disney Movies Clearly Made Just To Rake In Easy Cash" goes, these aren't the worst. I just hope he wasn't cast in this movie and this movie wasn't completely re-written just to exploit his Loki fan base.

I think he's starting to make it pretty clear that he's not too thrilled by being known, and loved/appreciated, mostly for playing Loki.  So it could be an attempt to break away from that (I think that's what the Muppet's sequel is aiming for...I hope...) but considering his character in the Tinkerbell movie is a young Captain Hook it's easy to doubt that.  It's not hard to conceive of how a lowly cabin boy can become a notorious pirate and that character development sounds strikingly similar to another character Tom has played...

He has? I hadn't noticed. He sounded flattered (though perhaps a bit unnerved) by the fan reception of his character when people asked him about it. But I can see why he would want to break away from Loki fever - ignoring the fanbase, some actors probably don't want to be type-cast in that sort of niche for the rest of their lives. Especially this early in their careers. And it'll be nice to see him return to comedy for a bit; it can't be easy to play tragic character after tragic character after tragic movie character before you find yourself stuck in a permanent case of the slums. But Hook is a pretty big deviation from his norm. The writing for the Tinkerbell movies isn't exactly Shakespeare, and while Hiddleston has played lighthearted characters and maybe a goofball here and there, Hook is a very special sort of goofball. He can be cutthroat, cruel, and diabolical, but he also runs crying to his fuddy-duddy old first mate when he hears a ticking clock. I have no doubt Hiddleston can pull off the cutthroat, cruel, and diabolical aspects, but it'll be . . . interesting to hear a guy who's usually so dang quiet wail like a giant man-baby.

As for his role in the Muppets sequel, I thought that was a combination of Lifetime Bucket List and Celebrity Status Bucket List. Y'know, a list of iconic roles to play, people to work with, stuff to do to mark ones acting career as a true success to be remembered in all the history/record books. He's doing pretty well so far.
Create an iconic character in a multimillion dollar franchise - check
Work with Steven Spielberg - check
Amass a faithful fanbase who value you for who you are and what you can do rather than embarrassing publicity stunts - check
Work with iconic characters and performers from Jim Henson's Creature Workshop - check (and about to be double check)
Work off various critically acclaimed movie and theater icons - checks all over the place
Play an animated character for Disney - almost check

Besides, who's gonna say "no" when the MUPPETS are asking you to be in their movie?

Yeah that's what I meant about the Muppet's movie.  But the interwebz fanbase exploded when people found out Tom was gonna be in it.  It's caught their attention but I'm sure he also knows it's going to attract others as well because it's the freakin' Muppets.  I just find the selection itself (celebrity status aside, what other big roles is he known for and not just because someone saw it on his IMDB or Wiki page?) interesting.

From what I've read he's not going to be Hook himself in the Tinkerbell movie, just the kid that eventually becomes him (but I could be wrong).  I just can't help but find it a little funny when you compare the growth of that character to Loki's.

I'm sure he's flattered, but unnerved?  Definitely.  If I were him I'd probably feel like people don't wanna talk to me, they wanna talk to the character, ya know what I mean?  As if the two are the same in some people's minds.  Enter the Tomki shipping...

Well, he hasn't had that many big roles. Loki was his first big-screen movie role where he appeared throughout the majority of it and actually had important plot-related stuff to do, rather than a five-minute cameo here, a two-minute cameo there, or just 15 minutes in the first act before being offed and never returning to the screen again. And his Muppets performance probably won't take up a lot of screentime, especially considering how many Muppet scenes they have to get through and how many other celebrities are earning their "I Worked With the Muppets Club" jackets in this movie. But it'll be fun to see him demonstrate some new talents.

Yeah, I know. He's playing a teenage James _____ (what a cruel, cruel world it would be if his real last name was actually Hook long before he lost his hand). But his pre-Hook years have to lay some groundwork for his more iconic adult life. And while he may not start with the crying and screaming in this movie, it'll be hard to imagine a teenage pirate Loki growing up to be such a whiner baby.

I get what you mean. There are plenty of fans who can separate a character from the actor, but there are a few who see the two as one and the same. Man, it's a shame the Muppets don't have a show on the air right now - it would be so much fun to see this exploited in a Muppets Show episode! Like the time Luke Skywalker and his "cousin" Mark Hamill guest-starred. But with Hiddleston and his "cousin" Loki, they could really play on the Jeckyl/Hyde aspects.
