oh yes it's true, non premium members can't use thumbs in comments and in deviations' descriptions, people who have the "add media issue" in comments and descriptions can only try the solutions you already listed.
but there are places where there is no "add media" button at all, like in notes, and I tried the thumb option there and worked just fine :3 I exactly tested it with this very icon you made, I sent a note to my brother, found out there was no add media button and I tried the thumb and magic just worked XD
and now I can haz manly tears really everywhere XD
