If those religious people would take the time to actually read Harry Potter they might actually find that it's not about the devil, or even god. It's about the on-going battle of good and evil, and since Harry Potter is technically speaking on the good side, I think that if there is actually a heaven, god would welcome him with open arms. I mean, he's no saint, but he's not exactly a satanic soul bent on the destruction of the church, now is he?

They're just jealous because they can't preform magic.
that depends. you don't get into heaven for being "good."
i do think it's shtoopid for them to simply judge a book by it's cover, but i can see where they are comin' from, you know with the whole witchcraft thing. but honestly, the book did have a rather christian message, when you really look at it, but i absolutely love the books, so...... yeah. there's my unaskedfor opinion on the subject. :P

You're right, but it does help :D

Yeah, I can kind of see where they're coming from too, but they should probably be focusing on real issues like child abuse instead of stuff like this. Especially when the books are so amazing. ^_^
the books are one of THE most amazing things, and i definitely don't think they are anything to worry about. but i can also see where something like harry potter would worry them more than, say, child abuse. don't get me wrong, it's a horrible thing that must be stopped, but harry potter is something seemingly innocent that their children would think nothing of reading that, to them, contains all sorts of great evils, thereby poisoning their youth and damning them to hell. like a wolf in sheeps clothing.
witchcraft and sorcery are extremely controversial in the christian community (teehee, this sounds like a research paper)but in my opinion, when the bible refers to that stuff, i think they were probably talking about drugs. cuz in ancient israel, wouldn't that seem like potions and magic?
hmm. i've been rambling for a long time, so i'm gonna shutup now :D

Yeah, they probably were talking about drugs. It amazes me how many people got high in the old-days without thinking anything of it and then blaming witchcraft for thier bad behavior.
i know! yeah, but if you really think about it, they probably actualy thought it WAS sorcery. they simply didn't know any better. plus, as we constantly see today, they're addicting.

Probably, it has been proven that if you don't think that something's bad for you, then what happens to you because of it will be blamed on something else. (Like the poor neighbor lady who just happened to stop in the middle of the street and gaze at your house the day before you started seeing the devil at the foot of your bed)
like republicans and global warming.
(no offense, if you are one. it's just an observation)
