That is what strikes me as most concerning. Initially I assumed they just wanted an excuse to ostracise the monophysites but they never really used their opportunity to take advantage of them.
I find it baffling that they would let their empire divide further over such a trivial issue (In my eyes at least, maybe the people within the empire truly hated these "heretics")for no real gain.
