Thank you! I heart Van Dyck. (He was pretty cute too!) I'm glad you like how I draw period clothing- it's my real passion, and I see it done so badly so often. (Some pretty craptastic examples are [link] and [link] . I can't stand it when it's obvious the cover artist painted from some model wearing a zippered costume.)

As for periods I like, I'm a big fan of everything Stuart and early Georgian, mainly 1620-1720. I'm also fond of Rome, Assyria, the 14th century, and Edwardian stuff, as well as anything after that.

Sure, I'll send you my civil war story! But that's it, because the others are too unfinished.

What I find to be most troublesome when looking at the two excamples you have linked to, is that, even though they have tried making the dresses look correct as to the fashion of the period, and failing, is that they haven't even taken the time to check the hair styles of the period. That really annoyes me. I can't take it when the hair style doesn't fit the period. And I agree, those two women look like they have been wearing a zippered costume.

Oh, it's so nice finally meeting an artist who love the Stuart period and the early Georgian period too. I love those periods so much. I also love the Napoleonic era (I simply love napoleon, Lord Nelson and Talleyrand). I'm not really interested in history after the 19th century though.

Glad you agree. But what's even worse than crappy paintings are crappy Photoshopped photos of the same model in the same crappy costume. [link] Oh God, the horror! The horror!

I used to be crazy about Napoleon when I was 17 or so, but I got kind of burnt out on that too. I still have David's Coronation of Napoleon hanging over my bed, as kind of a leftover from my teenage Napoleonic phase.

Oh, the horror, the horror, indeed! How do people manage making such horrible photos? I almost can't believe my own eyes!

Oh, Napoleon. I still love him, very, very much. I guess I don't get burnt out that easily. As time goes by I just seem to get more and more in the way of interests in different kinds of historical people and events. I have to get myself a victorian-like library sometime. A huge library where I can have all my books. It's one of my huge passions - books - both on history, the occult, philosophy, art and several fiction books too.

So, what sci-fi do you like?
Arinya13's avatar
Well, I have never watched too much sci-fi. I have watched Star Wars when I was young though. So what kinds of sci-fi do you enjoy? And are there other things you enjoy watching - TV hows or something like that?

Well, I meant more in terms of books. ;P

I have never read any science fiction books. What I do read is...

Non-Fiction (Art, History, Philosophy, The Occult and Witchcraft).
Historical Fiction (Philippa Gregory, Colleen McCullough, Patrick O'Brian, CS Forester, Bernard Cornwell, Emma Orczy).
Classics (Brontë sisters, Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Elizabeth Gaskell, Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron, Jane Austen, Goethe, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, William Shakespeare, John Ford) I especially love Elizabethan, Jacobean, 18th century and 19th century literature.
Fairy Tales (Hans Christian Andersen, The Brothers Grimm).
Children's Literature (Lewis Carroll, Beatrix Potter, Kenneth Grahame).
Fantasy (JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, JK Rowling, Holly Black, Christopher Paolini, Lloyd Alexander, Garth Nix).
Other (Anne Rice, Margit Sandemo).

So these are just a little taste of the kind of authors and literature I love to read. When it comes to tv and movies...

TV Shows (The X-Files, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel).
Movies (Historical Movies (Tudor/Elizabethan, Civil War, 18th Century), Costume Drama (Like Pride and Prejudice), Fantasy (Like HP, LOTR, Labyrinth), Mystery (Like Sherlock Holmes).

So how about you? What do you really love to read and watch?
