Wow, you got a DD. Congratulations :excited:
Too bad I don't check DDs anymore since dA changed the front page. I have it set to most popular works of the day and I really miss the thubnails of DDs, journal portal and everything else at the bottom that used to be there on the old front page. But I just don't like the new design. It is too crowded for my liking.

That's a very beautiful dragon-like creature. Did you design it? I tried designing fantasy creatures a while ago but they all looked silly.
The colour scheme is very well choosen. I like that you put red in, like in the tail and the back, but it's more purple or brownish in the front leg and the face. So it does stand out like red always does. But it's not too bright and goes well with the greens and more blueish colours in the background.
By the way, is gouache similar to acrylics? I never used it so I just wondered what it is like, and you use it a lot.

That's alright! Thank you! I also don't check the DDs as often now. I think stripping that bottom bar was a wrong move on DA's behalf, but then, there is not much I can do about it haha!

Yes, this is my design, although it is also one of the spinoffs that appeared when I was designing this Nathapala by YemaYema commissioned character. You can see how both have scales and a frill around the head, elements the client was after :)
Gouache is a lot similar to watercolor, but thicker and less transparent. I find it is super tricky to handle because it works so differently depending on how much water you add to it... but that is also the reason why it is so versatile. You can do almost anything with it! :D

Yeah, I agree with you on the new front page.

Oh yes, I remember that creature and I see the similarities. That's nice that you got some ideas for this Leodrake after doing the commission :)
Oh okay. Thanks for the explanation. So can you wash guache out of your paper like you can do with watercolours, or does it stay put once it's dry? Sounds like a great medium to work with once you know how it works :)

Gouache will wash away even more than watercolors. But that depends a lot on the type of paper you use (I am currently working on a very porous paper and it doesn't wash away at all...). Because it washes away easily, it is also easy to accidentally lift it up when you don't want to. A lot of people use watercolors first, then gouache on top.

Oh, thanks for the explanation. I didn't know that. Guache sounds like a very difficult medium to work with. I think I just stick with the watercolours I've got. I'm used to them and I don't need to buy new stuff ;)

well, it all depends... Sometimes you can find cheap gouache sets for sale. If you do, it's a good idea to try it out and see for yourself! What is hard for some may be easy for others and visaversa. :D

You are right. Maybe I find working in Gouache not so difficult after all :) I like watercolours a lot although my teacher in art class said it's a very difficult medium to work in. I will keep my eyes open and if I find a cheap Gouache set, I give it a try. Thank you for encouraging me :)
