Hello, seeing as it is hard to find a direct contact to deviantart, I will post my concern here. This particular member j-le7.deviantart.com/ has many blagged Celtic images which he has just coloured in with photoshop and he seems to be earning quite handsomely from it. I feel that this is basically theft and I believe that deviantart should do something about it.
They claim on all images 'Inspired by:', however they are just copy/paste rip offs..............
So if anybody out there has the power to sort out my concerns, I would be grateful, as personally I don't feel that somebody should be profiting from work that is ultimately not theirs in the first place. I did contact the user but he was nothing but rude and offensive in reply.

If the original line drawing images are genuine Celtic symbols from that culture, they are in the public domain, not covered by copyright and other artists can use them, including by coloring them in.  If instead the original line drawings are original modern designs in the style of Celtic symbols, then the user would need permission to color them in.  Finally, its also possible the line drawings are distributed for free for any use.  Many line drawing of historical significance are distributed that way simply as a public service and to feed people's interests in history.

Thanks for the enlightening reply! I just find it really annoying that somebody is capitalising nicely from designs that are not theirs in the first place.
