I am not a brony...and I will actively avoid anything MLP-related.

Oh, okay. ^^;

In that case, I found some stuff that fits much better: the Nox Arcana songs "Lost in the Darkness" and "Nevermore".  Both two very eerily atmospheric peices that I could imagine playing when Gloom!Riley encounters Riley.

Lost in the Darkness: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uYvW9…;
Nevermore: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIZk2L…;

Any of NA's majot atmospheric songs could work, really. :)

The Emperor's theme from Star Wars works too as well as Davy Jones's pipe organ song.

I just listened to Davy Jones' theme and wow... you're right... with that almost music-box like tone that then transitions into an epic organ sound at about 1:15 in, I can imagine it starting out as some sort of thing when Gloom is emotionally manipulating Riley in a really subtle way, and Riley ends up feeling more despair, but fights through it with the help of her emotions and then BAM, epic battle thing! :D

I thought of Riley entering her mind after being knocked unconscious by some rival hockey players. Thankfully, Riley is expected to fully recover within a few days to two weeks. Inside her mind, Gloom is ready to take advantage of the situation and usurp control.

Huh, did you write "Floating in the Mind" on fanfiction.net, by any chance?  I haven't fully read it, but in the description 3 girls on a rival hockey team cause Riley to fall into a coma.^^;

And with Gloom ursurping control, I can't help but think that if we go with the "alternate Riley" interpretation, she tries to take over Riley's mind and such. :)

No, I did not write it. Yes that's exactly what would happen. Oh and did I describe in detail my interpretation of Gloom? If not here it is in Mind Manual style:

The Host and Emotions, Section 16: Gloom

Gloom is an emotion encompassing the Host's dark side and accordingly resembles a dark reflection of the Host's physical appearance in addition to a tar-like texture. Unlike the five primary emotions; Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger, Gloom should not be present in Headquarters at any time. Instead he/she resides in the deepest levels of the Host's Subconscious. His/her purpose there is to serve as a personified warning of what the Host has the potential to become.

Ooh, I like that interpretation in Mind Manual form, great work there!

My headcanon is that the darkness over the console in the film's climax was actually a manifestation of Gloom, it would have just grown more powerful and taken on a less abstract form if Riley's depressive state had worsened.
