I don't really understand why you would need permission to use an idea or in this case a species type... It's not physically stealing anything, and ideas can't be copyrighted.... right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The first person to come up with this species, designed it, so it's not just an idea anymore. That's how I see it anyway.
If I made a drawing, I wouldn't like anyone stealing it. And I think, since it's a design, it would be physically stealing.
