Iacar is slowing the group down on purpose, thus putting them in danger, all because he believes Niavel is essentially an invalid because she is pregnant. He thinks she needs to rest often, even if she doesn't. This puts the group in danger because they are being chased and need to put as much distances between themselves and their pursuers as possible. More than likely he will dote on her excessively over the next few pages or perhaps up to the birthing. Surama notices this and comments on it. Iacar is putting the group in potential danger because he is being overprotective of Niavel (which is understandable given how his partner died). If you were confused by Surama's comment, then I bet you might not understand the 4th panel too well, either. Hafmar knows Surama was referring to Iacar and Niavel, but he cannot help but think the same of himself and his sister. Her over-protectiveness of Hafmar and his madness could also pose a severe threat to the group.
