Well, I think all you need is a good imagination to picture those events, mighty descriptions and possible symbolism. And an open mind! + The characters (and fantasy themes generally) are just a damn good excuse to read it.
If it disappoints, then it will, but if it's good then I'll be +1 with a positive reading experience. I can only judge it properly when I've read it though!
