Well the Rapturians are sentient machines that pretty much rule most of the galaxy. When they capture civilians, they usually experiment on them.

Yeah I mean when they begin the occupation, they quickly learn the some people poses unique abilities like flying, spitting fire, lasers, etc. They simply wouldn't taken a chance if this people were all the sudden able organize a rebellion...so they were taken and relocated to a "safe environment"...the rest that weren't deemed a real threat were spared from the raid.
