Male calico happen when the tom has 2 X chromosomes because of a faulty egg as well as a Y. Of course, this would make the tomcat sterile. A chimera, which is 2 fertilized eggs fusing together, may also result in the tomcat having 2 X chromosomes, allowing them to be a torie/calico while also being fertile.
