I did that using transparent glazing technique, adding transparent layers of watercolor overtime until it looks finished, I cant remember exact amount of layer though.
Oh cool! I'll have to try that then, thanks! 
however , please let previous layer dry before adding new glazing layer, or you will get wet in wet effect instead.
