I agree the Russian land forces were hampered by a severe logistical problems in Russo-Japanese war.

The reason for the surprise is when the Russians fought the Germans in WWI there some significant advantages judging by the uneven slaughter.

During the Russo-Japanese war, the Japanese navy repeatedly proved itself the technological superior of the Russian navy.

Surprising, no such advantage showed  up at infantry level in Russo-Japanese war.

I totally agree with you.   German Army was very well commanded,  from the Armies headquarters since to the Stellvertreter, a kind of NCO, at that time of illiterate peasants the German workers  provided many non-commissioned officers, or as it's better to say "Stellvertreter"
But a French 75 mm cannon Deport was as good as a 75 mm cannon made from Armstromg or Skoda or Krupp, or even by the italian Ansaldo.

I wonder how Russian equipment in WWI measured up to German counterparts.

I do agree the German command, logistical and chain of command were superior in WWI.

Russian had good individual weapon, a little more heavy than those of the other nations, because the steel was not very good, so they need greater thickness,
this was true in WW2 too. The great problem was the lack of heavy artillery and especially of artillery shells, and the lack of a sufficient number of weapons to arm the millions of men that were  enrolled.
