Heh, actually, I have a rug in my kitchen :L I just make a thing out of not spilling things on it. Kinda like the layout is here, I have it a bit away from the kitchen appliances. 
And thanks! I found a pretty decent way to get the cloth sim to work in my favor! Regular high-poly plane attached to a cube, then using some V-shaped meshes to push the the cloth into the shape I wanted!
