I can also see Metal feeling disgusted with himself, since he's a machine created by Eggman, but Sonic tries his best to tell him that he shouldn't.

Man, we (98% done by you) have developed Metal's personality far more than SEGA has ever done.

Oh yeah, Metal would be so conflicted. Especially since you can imagine the environmental destruction required to make him--all of Eggman's dirty mines and factories were needed, and Metal has done his own share of destruction while following Eggman's orders. Sonic, of course, tells Metal that's all in the past--he can help to restore nature now. But Metal would still feel guilty.

That is very true! It's always such a shame SEGA doesn't really develop him because his character has so much complexity and potential if they would just try.

Metal having guilt about what he's done but learning to accept his mistakes and moving forward, helping restore what he can would be excellent character development. Despite what little personality he has, I can actually see this happening.

Honestly, Shadow is the only character in the Sonic series with a backstory. I think Metal has some development in the comics, but I'm not 100% on that.

I agree. I always liked the idea of Metal realizing what he's done and trying to redeem himself. He is good on the inside, just like Sonic, and this makes sense for him.

In the comics, the version of Metal that gets character development is the same one that eventually turns into Shard. So while he does get some, it turns him into a different character.

i agree with that fact about Shard.

I mean, Metal technically is Sonic. He would eventually realize right from wrong and learn how to deal with the emotions he's experiencing.

That would explain why I like Shard... So far, only Heroes and the OVA have really explored Metal as a character. We'll just have to wait and see with Forces.

That's what I like about Metal. He is Sonic, so that goodness is there inside of him, even if it's buried beneath Eggman's programming.

I'm a little dubious about Forces developing Metal, to be honest. As cool as that would be, Graff is writing it. He's the same writer from Colors/Lost Worlds, and he's known for his...lack of character development in his writing.

It's a shame that SEGA likes to scrap character development.

Well, there's also Alex Hirsch. He neither confirmed nor denied his possible involvement on Forces when he visited SEGA, and everyone knows how great Gravity Falls is.
