Yes, it's a mix of a few cultures, the inspiration came from videos games and movies I really enjoyed, not for the values and motives of the antagonist, but the aesthetics of the vehicles, the uniforms, the artifacts. I see this book as something the characters in the movie "Hellboy" would find as clue to defeat the bad guys! Or a quest item to complete the game "return to castle Wolfenstein"!

I think I understand where you're coming from on this.  It's like when the first time I saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" at the theater.  I wasn't concerned with the plotline, just interested in the technology being used to convey the story along.  The giant robots harkens back to an early Superman cartoon of the early 1940s that I've always loved.  This movie is very, very diesel punk!=P (Razz)

The journal would be an inspiration for an adventure game using D20 Modern rules set in this world!
