Actually we have the Truckee river as an outlet, which flows through Truckee, Reno, and then eventually into Pyramid Lake. We cannot open the dam any more and now the river is now flooding and may even start running over a major interstate highway. We are supposed to get more snow today. :) Anyways, how's the weather in Germany?

Oh. Why can't you open the dam? Too much water?

The weather in germany is the same as it has been for the past 3 month: anywhere between 0 to 10 °C with occasional dips below 0 °C during nights. Well, except for a few days in the end of march where we had 25 °C. It seems so wrong. This winter will never end. During the last tourney las weekend we had -4 °C during the night (we were camping) and our wet clothes were completely frozen. I would send you pictures via PM but for some reason I'm not able to move my pictures from the virtual machine on my pc. It's quite disgusting to wear frozen neoprene shoes early in the morning. :D

I believe the dam is fully open to keep Tahoe from flooding. Creeks all over are running over their banks and through peoples homes.

Yeah - being wet while camping is never fun - especially in sub freezing weather. Hiking, on the other hand is great in cool weather. It makes it a lot easier to handle. :)

Oh, that sounds terrible. :( And it will probably continue for another 1-2 months, right?... Is your house in danger as well? There was a creek running nearby irrc?

Luckily we weren't wet, just our clothes for kayaking. I don't know about hiking. If it's really cold you wear lots of warm clothes when you start, then it quickly becomes too warm and you start stripping. But once you stop you need to get all those clothes back on. I take a little heat over that I think. ;)

lol - yes, we are in between two creeks so things could get interesting later! Yeah I know what you mean about the clothing on and off. As soon as I stop, I'm freezing! then I get going again and I'm sweating, but I hate the hot weather so, to each their own I suppose!

Oh by the way - I get to go to Kings Canyon in the fall to Reyes Lake and a few other spots. Was that one of the lakes you went to? Sounded familiar. Either way - it looks really cool. I'm excited! and a little nervous haha... :)

Haha yeah, in general I prefer the middle of the road in terms in terms of temperatures. Nice and warm so you can sit and chill without freezing. I don't mind some sweat during hikes but it shouldn't be too hot, either. Anyways, get the sandbags ready before it's too late. I hope you'll stay dry without them though.

I sadly didn't visit Kings Canyon but I have heared and read lots of good things about it. That sounds exciting indeed. I hope you will be able to get some great pictures to share. :) What are you nervous about? With your experience there shouldn't go anything wrong. Are you worried about the conditions? Or is it just the usual nervousness before a trip into unknown wilderness?
Btw. the lakes we were talking about are called Garnet Lake/Thousand Island Lake and are located in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. ;)

It's just the usual nervousness before a big trip - that's all. No big deal.:)

I definitely have Ansel Adams area on my list - I just probably will have to go alone which is always risky.

Yeah, you are right, it's risky. However, those places (asuming you are going to Kings Canyon alone, too) aren't too remote. You will still meet enough people if something happens. ;) On the bright sight, going alone has the benefit of not being constrained. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want without having to worry about pissing the person with you off.
