Is it like drawing with knives? Do you sketch your ideas in pencil and then scratch them in?

Yes, I literally scratch everything off with an xacto knife. I make a drawing on a separate sheet of paper and then transfer that to the board.

Ok cool! At some point I'm going to have to try this. It looks a lot better than the rubbed-out pencil marks that come when I try to create tone! :D

Yeah, it's really fun for sure! You should definitely try it. I get Ampersand scratchboards as I love the quality they offer and they're very affordable too. :)

Is it easier to make tone on a scratchboard than paper? I'm currently struggling with using rubbers to make white marks on pencil (I really need thinner rubbers :D) but it looks a lot easier on a scratchboard.

Um, it depends! ;) If you get a "feel" for the medium then I don't think it's too hard. It's something to get used to first. :)

True. :) Thanks for all the info! I just need to try it now! :D
